Fire Prevention Week |
MAYETTA: Next week is Fire Prevention Week and the Potawatomi Tribal Fire Department has several activities and events lined up to help get the word out about preventing fires and staying safe.
On Wednesday, Oct. 8 firefighters and EMS personnel will travel to Delia Grade Schoolto speak to children and give demonstrations and on Friday, Oct. 10 children from the PBPNEarly Childhood Education Center will visit the fire station and take a tour.
On Saturday, October 11 from noon to 4 p.m. an open house and ice cream social is planned for the community.
The Fire Department is housed in a state-of-the-art facility located at 15468 K Road,Mayetta, Kan. The department provides 24-hour service that consists of emergency medical care/ambulance service and also provides public education, CPR and first aid training, fire safety inspections and blood pressure checks. It also works with the BIA wild lands program on prescribed burnings of land and through offering wild land firefighter courses at the facility.
Shift captains in the department are Rick Swogger, Melvin Lewis and Tim Morse. Mary LeClere handles the daily administrative duties for the crews.
