MAYETTA: Some Tribal Council members and others are in Phoenix this week to attend the National Congress of American Indians (NCAI) 65th Annual Convention and Tradeshow. The convention began yesterday and will run until Friday, Oct. 24.
Kevin Gover, Director of the Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian, will give the keynote address today and this afternoon a press conference is scheduled to help Arizona tribes disburse the message of high crime, drug trafficking and the lack of funding attributed to border issues that are affecting their tribes. During the rest of the week sessions on health, education, criminal justice and gaming will be held as they relate to Indian people.
