2016 Click It or Ticket is Rapidly Approaching
As part of the national seat belt enforcement campaign Click It or Ticket, law enforcement agencies around the country will be stepping up enforcement from May 23 to June 5, just ahead of one of the busiest travel weekends of the year.
The Prairie Band Potawatomi Police Department will be enforcing the campaign on Thursday, May 26, from 2 pm to 6 pm on the Prairie Band Potawatomi Common Land.
Every day, unbuckled motorists are losing their lives in motor vehicle crashes. As Memorial Day weekend and the summer vacation season approach, we want to make sure people are doing the one thing that can save them in a crash: buckling up.
Nearly half of the 21,022 passenger vehicle occupants killed in crashes in 2014 were unrestrained. At night from 6 p.m. to 5:59 a.m., that number soared to 57 percent of those killed. Participating law enforcement agencies will be taking a no-excuses approach to seat belt law enforcement, writing citations day and night.
Also, this year, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is aiming to increase campaign participation even more by coordinating at least two “Coast to Coast” seat belt enforcement efforts, to include all law enforcement around specific interstate corridors, such as I-10, I-40, I-70, and I-80. This effort does not limit Click It or Ticket enforcement to these corridors, or prevent states from participating in the campaign; rather, these corridors will serve to link and highlight the entire seat belt enforcement effort.
