Mayetta, KS: Firekeeper Golf Course, part of Prairie Band Casino & Resort isparticipating in the sixth annual Patriot Golf Day today. Golfers are benefiting the Folds of Honor Foundation (FoldsofHonor.org), which provides post-secondary educational scholarships for children and spouses of military service men and women killed or disabled while serving our great nation. The mission of Folds of Honor is to help ensure that no family is left behind in the field of battle by honoring their sacrifice and educating their legacy. Firekeeper is donating greens fees to Folds of Honor. Patriot Golf Day is jointly supported by The PGA of America and the United States Golf Association.
Major Dan Rooney, a PGA Professional, USGA member and former F-16 military pilot with the Oklahoma Air National Guard, founded Folds of Honor Foundation in 2007 following his second of three tours of duty in Iraq. After witnessing the tragic homecoming of a fallen American solider, Rooney was inspired to start Folds of Honor Foundation to provide support to military families in the aftermath of their tragedies. In the last five years, PGA Professionals have been instrumental in raising more than $12.8 million by hosting Patriot Golf Day events at their facilities.
Firekeeper’s General Manager and Head Professional, Randy Towner, is honored to help this cause and believes Firekeeper’s patrons will be eager to show their support, as well. Major Rooney is a personal friend of Towner, making Towner’s dedication to the cause even greater. They met while Rooney attended the University of Kansas where he golfed and earned his Master’s of Science in Performance Psychology. “Dan has gone on to do exceptional things and I’m pleased to be able to support him and the work that he does with Folds of Honor,” said Towner.
Firekeeper is donating proceeds from greens fees to Folds of Honor and have planned a number of ways patrons can donate to this worthy cause. A silent auction is being held with proceeds going directly to Folds of Honor. The local Budweiser distributor, Strathman Sales, is donating proceeds made from beverage sales at the course and the Prairie Band Casino & Resort also provided discounts. The We-Ta-Se, Potawatomi Nation U.S. Military veterans, will greet and host the golfers.
