BARBARA J. TIMS
MAYETTA – Barbara J. Tims, 61, of Mayetta, died Sunday, April 3, 2011 at the Stormont-Vail Hospital in Topeka.
She was born June 26, 1949, at Horton, the daughter of Maynard and Coraline Keesis Potts. She graduated from Chilocco Indian School in 1967.
Barbara worked for Indian Health Services in various places for 24 years.
She was a member of the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation and the Potawatomi Pentecostal Church.
She married Forrest Tims on April 4, 1984. He died December 12, 2000 in Oklahoma City.
Barbara was also preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Vernon Potts and Norman Potts.
Survivors include sons, John “Sam” Potts and wife Rebekah, and Chad O’Neil Wanatee, all of Mayetta, Jesse Potts and wife Sarah, Florence, AZ, and Isiah Potts and Ian Cook, of the home; two daughters, Bridgette Whitehorse, Montezuma Creek, Utah, and Paula Jo Potts, Oklahoma City; two brothers, Eddie Potts, Mayetta, and Lloyd Potts, Oklahoma City; two sisters, Voncile Mitchell, Mayetta, and Doris Potts-Zyganiuk, Parry Sound, Ontario; six grandchildren, two great grandchildren, two special friends, Juanita Jessepe and Paula Moore, and a very special friend, Bebes Tims.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 6th at the Potawatomi Pentecostal Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Barbara will lie in state at the Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Hoyt where family and friends will meet from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
