Cecelia Miksekwe Jackson
MAYETTA- Cecelia Miksekwe Jackson, 88, of Mayetta, KS passed away Sunday, May 29, 2011 at a Topeka hospital. She was born October 2, 1922 on the Potawatomi Common Land, the daughter of Joseph Bill and Rosann Lasley Potts. She had lived all of her life on the common land and was a lifelong member of the Drum Religion.
Meeks had worked at Slimaker Dress Factory for many years. She had been a volunteer for the PBPN Language Program and worked as a cook at the Bingo Hall. She was a member of the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation and the “We Ta Se” Post #410 of the American Legion Auxiliary.
Meeks is survived by her daughter, Jan Pom Hubbard of Lecompton, KS; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son, Johnny “Jack” Jackson in February 2001; her sisters, Minnie LeClere and Angelina Seymour; her brothers, Maynard “Naw Kweh Kishhek” Potts, William Potts, Nelson Potts, Frank Tecumseh, James Wabnosah and Garnett Potts.
Drum services will be Wednesday evening June 1, 2011 at her home. Burial will be in Potts Cemetery on Thursday afternoon. Meeks will lie in state at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton Tuesday until Wednesday morning. To leave a special a message, visit www.mercerfuneralhomes.com
