Charles C. Gimbel Obituary

Charles C. Gimbel
June 4, 1944 – August 18, 2024

Charles C. Gimbel, 80, of Norwich, retired mechanic, passed away Sunday, August 18, 2024 at Ascension Via Christi – St. Francis, Wichita, Kansas.

Memorial Service 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 26, 2024 at Norwich Methodist Church. 623 E. Burns, Norwich, Kansas. Military Honors by the U.S. Army Honor Guard, Fort Riley, Kansas.

Chuck was born June 4, 1944 at Wichita, Kansas the son of Harold Carl Gimbel and Annabel Louise (Harrington) Gimbel. He grew up in Wichita and attended Wichita public schools. He graduated from Wichita East High School with the class of 1962.

Chuck was drafted and entered the U.S. Army on January 3, 1967, where he served his country in Vietnam. He was honorably discharged on October 26, 1968.

He was united in marriage to Amelia Adrienne (Ross) Farris on November 24, 1973 at Oxnard, California.

Chuck worked his entire life as a mechanic. He spent most of his career at the Naval Weapons Station in Concord, California. He became medically disabled following a severe heart attack and retired in May of 1985.

The family returned to Kansas and made their home in Cheney. They later moved to Norwich in November of 1999.

Chuck was preceded in death by his parents and one son Scott Farris in June 2019.

He is survived by his wife Amelia Gimbel; children: Tracy (Marty) Simpson of West Plains, Missouri; Charlotte Boettcher of Jacksonville, North Carolina; Russell (Josh McGirk) Gimbel of Denver, Colorado; Randy (Mindy) Gimbel of Surprise, Arizona; Amber (Brian) Heimerman of Norwich, Kansas; one sister Vicki Abele of Sun City, Arizona; 16 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren and a number of other relatives and friends.

A memorial has been established to the Wounded Warrior Project.
