Daylan W. Mzhickteno Obituary

July 9, 2024 –

Daylan Wayne “Pewamo” Mzhickteno
January 27, 1982 – July 8, 2024

Daylan Wayne “Pewamo” Mzhickteno, 42, of Mayetta, KS, passed away Monday, July 8, 2024 at University of Kansas Health System (KU Med) with family by his side. He was born January 27, 1982 in Topeka, KS, the son of Duane Dale Mzhickteno and Anna Mahkuk.

Daylan graduated from St. Mary’s High School in 2000 and attended Johnson County Community College. He worked for the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation caring for the buffalo for many years. He worked for a tree removal company in Lawrence and was currently trained for asbestos removal in commercial and residential buildings.

Daylan was a member of the Native American Church and Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation.

Survivors include his mother, Anna Mahkuk of Emmett, KS; step-father, Lawrence Pahmahmie of Mayetta, KS; 4 children, Daylan Mzhickteno II, Duane Mzhickteno, Darion Mzhickteno and Abbi Goodspeed; sister, Leona Pahmahmie of Great Falls, MT; maternal grandfather, Fred Mahkuk of Eua Claire, WI; paternal grandmother, Norma Mzhickteno of Mayetta, KS; many aunts, uncles and close family considered brothers and sisters.

He was preceded in death by his father, Duane Dale Mzhickteno.

Family greeted friends Thursday evening, July 11, 2024 at the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Supper and Sundown Services were held Friday, July 12, 2024 at the Native American Church. Sunrise Burial was held Saturday, July 13, 2024 at Danceground Cemetery.
