June 11, 2009 –
Denice (P-quo-tah) Hernandez Savage, 56, of Kansas City, Missouri died May 16, 2009 at White Oak Manor.
Denice was born January 1, 1953. She accomplished many things in her life but none more great than her children and grandchildren with whom she was very proud. She was a student and a teacher of life and proud of her Native American heritage. If you were ever down you could always count on her to make you laugh and raise your spirits. “Aunt Niece” as she was so affectionately known by all those who surrounded her, will be dearly missed for she touched so many hearts in her life.
Denice was preceded in death by her father, Joseph Hernandez, several aunts and uncles and her paternal and maternal grandparents. She is survived by her mother, Ellen Osh Harris and step-father Floyd Harris; her children Cecily Romero and Daniel Walker ( Margo); her grandchildren Isaiah and Juanito (ito) Concha, Sophie Ryhs Walker and Alex Miller; her siblings Chris, James, Joseph, Steven, Cheryl, Patrick, Tina and Michael; several nieces and nephews and her Aunt Vivian Gonzales and Uncle Paul Hernandez.
A Rosary and a viewing were held at D.W. Newcomer’s Sons Stine & McClure Funeral Home, Kansas City, Missouri on May 20, 2009. A Memorial Mass will be held at a later date at Our Lady of Snows Church on the Prairie Band Potawatomi Common Land.
Denice’s son Danny wote that Denice was a woman with a well and strong heart. Even in her darkest time she would always be there to help a stranger from falling apart. She had a passion for life and kindness so bright, she fought daily sickness to stay in our sight. Although it was time to get on the Lord’s ship, her laughter, love and smile shall never be forgotten.
