Florence Camacho Obituary

TOMAH, WI – Florence “Leading Elk” Wabshoggin Camacho, age 101, of Tomah, Wisconsin walked on Monday, November 30, 2020.

A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, December 3, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. at the Conway-Picha Funeral Home in Lyndon Station, WI with Pastor Claudia Deede officiating. A visitation will be held at the funeral home from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at 1:00 p.m. Burial will be at Spring Grove Cemetery in Wisconsin Dells, WI.

Florence was born June 8, 1919, in Wittenberg, Wisconsin the daughter of Eugene and Annie Mae (Boyce) Wabshoggin. She attended and graduated from the Bethany Indian Mission School, Wittenberg, WI. Florence was baptized and confirmed into the Norwegian Lutheran Church. Throughout her life, Florence remained in her faith. She was known to tell her children prayer is something to be done in humility.

Florence married Paul Camacho on May 7, 1952, in Mauston, WI; the marriage to Paul last for 58 years with Paul’s passing on September 5, 2010.

Over the 58 years of their marriage, they lived in Sturtevant, Lyndon Station, LaCrosse, Wisconsin Dells, Baraboo and Waukesha, Wisconsin, and Houston, Texas. Florence and Paul were blessed with 5 children, 4 of which today reside in Wisconsin Rapids, Black River Falls, Milwaukee, and Tomah, Wisconsin.

Throughout her life, Florence was a lady of varied talents and interests among which were beading and sewing. She designed and sewed doll-sized replicas of tribal dresses as well as making shawls. She had a deep interest in politics working for many years in polling locations where she lived. As a young girl, she developed an interest in baseball which she followed throughout her life. Florence spent her last years at the home of her daughter Yvette Lokotz.

Florence is survived by her sons and daughters; Fred (Joyce) Camacho, Peter (Penny) Camacho, Robert Camacho, Yvette Camacho (Paul); grandchildren, Codi (Kari) Camacho, Amber Camacho, Amy Kaehn, Aaron Camacho, Anna Camacho, Dawn Camacho Vix, Alexis Camacho Conger; great-grandchildren, Mycah Poulin, Dontae Camacho, Mareenah Shampeau, Macie Kaehn, Bree Kaehn, Tarek Kaehn; great-great grandchildren, Leeam Cholaku, Daymien Cholaku, Nataliah Shampeau and Meliah Shampeau. She was preceded in death by her parents, Eugene (Schum-nah) Wabshoggin and Annie (Ah-Who-gi-pla-Winga) Boyce Wabshoggin; husband, Paul Camacho Sr.; son, Paul Camacho Jr.; brothers, Herman, Harry, Arthur, Curtis and James Wabshoggin; sisters, Lena Wabshoggin Ramos, Mable Wabshoggin, Hazel Wabshoggin, Bertha Wabshoggin Lowe, Dell Wabshoggin Lowe and Frank (Wap-si) Wabshoggin.
