DEER RIVER, MINN. – Gary Joe Wahweotten, age 69, of Deer River, journeyed to the spirit world on Monday, March 5, 2018, at the Grand Village in Grand Rapids. Gary was born on April 21, 1948, in Holton, KS the son of Joe and Evelyn (Fitzsimmons) Wahweotten.
Gary grew up in Mayetta, KS and later resided in the Deer River area for a few years. He loved to go to the casino and ride his bike around town and also to attend pow-wows. Gary also loved to spend time with family who will miss him very much.
The family that Gary joins again are his mom and dad, sisters; Carol and Juanita, niece; Shawn, grandfathers; McKinley and Floyd, and grandmother; Ruth Fitzsimmons.
Those he leaves behind to cherish his memory are his sister; Darlene, nieces; Sherry, Ronda, Brenda, Shannon, Tammy and Teri, nephews; Randy, Barry, Shadley and Israel, many other nieces, nephews, family and friends.
A wake for Gary will begin at 4:00 p.m., Thursday, March 8, 2018, and will continue until the 10:00 a.m. service on Friday, March 9, all held at the Ball Club Community Center in Ball Club. Spiritual leader will be Steve Jackson. Pallbearers will be Kenny Moore, Ralph Schaaf, Wade Monroe, Mike White, Randy Schaff and Frank Schaaf. Alternates will be Tommy Applebee, Shadley White, Israel White and Raymond Schaaf. Interment will be held in the Olivet Cemetery in Deer River following the service.
