INEZ S. DODDS
TOPEKA- Inez Sozette “Cott-wah” Dodds, 75, of Topeka, KS, formerly of Mayetta, passed away July 24, 2014 in Topeka. She was born April 7, 1939 on the Potawatomi Common Land the daughter of Ray and Elsie (Wahwassuck) Wahweotten.
Inez attended Mayetta High School and Clarks Business School. She worked for Seymore’s (egg sorting company), Luce Press Clipping, Essex Wire and Goodyear Rubber & Tire Company all in Topeka. She received her Certified Nursing Assistant and had worked as a home health aide and house parent.
Inez was a member of the Peyote Religion and later Pentecostal Religion and a member of the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation.
She married Irving Leroy Shopteese, Sr. in 1956, they divorced. She then married Orten L. Dodds, they later divorced.
Survivors include 2 sons, Dennis Shopteese and Irving Shopteese, Jr. both of Mayetta; a daughter, Vicki Shopteese of Topeka; 3 sisters, Mary Brown and Cheryl Walker both of Mayetta and Lorraine Wahweotten of Denver, CO; an adopted sister, Lorene Thomas of Horton; 3 brothers, Orville Rice of Topeka, Ronald Wahweotten of Hoyt and Larry Wahweotten of Augusta; 11 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Inez was preceded in death by a son, Randall Shopteese; a daughter, Linda Shopteese; a brother, Edward Wahweotten and 4 adopted brothers, Victor, Phillip, Cecil and Joe Hale.
