James Howard Jackson (SewWishKno)
September 11, 1953 – July 7, 2024

James Howard Jackson, SewWishKno, 70, of Mayetta, passed away on Sunday, July 7, 2024 at his home on the Prairie Band Potawatomi Reservation.

He was born September 11, 1953 in Oklahoma City, the son of Robert and Lorene Alexander Jackson.

James was a member of the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation and the Drum Religion. He had served on the Tribal Council from 1996 to 2000.

He worked in construction in the Jackson and Shawnee County area, doing dry wall finishing and all other types of construction.

He married Judy Faith Carlisle on February 5, 1975. She survives, of the home.

James was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Justina “Tommie” Jackson, a granddaughter, Yolanda Solis, two brothers, Mike Jackson and Johnny Jackson, and two sisters, Linda Jackson and Roberta Jackson.

Other survivors include his adopted father, Ed Potts, Mayetta, two sons, Jason Jackson (Lindsey) and Justin Jackson (Stephanie), all of Topeka, two daughters, Jennifer Jackson, Mayetta and Felicia Brown, Denver, CO, four sisters, Evelyn Seymour, Lucy Jackson and Janice Jackson, all of Topeka, and Beverly Goslin (Doug), Mayetta, an adopted brother, Benny Potts, Mayetta, two adopted sisters, Judith Wabaunsee, Topeka and Rose Hale, Mayetta, fifteen grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

Drum Service and Wake was held Thursday evening at the Dance Ground Building on the Potawatomi Reservation. Burial was Friday afternoon in Matwe-Shobney Cemetery. James laid in state Thursday at the Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Hoyt. On-line condolences may be made at chapeloaksfuneralhome.com
