TOPEKA, KS – John William McCrary, Sr., of Topeka, KS passed away at the age of 69 on Saturday, September 26, 2020, due to end-stage kidney renal failure.
John was born on December 3, 1950, to Cedric McCrary and Rose Belair McCrary in Kansas City, KS.
John was a beloved brother, father, grandpa, great-grandpa, cousin, and friend. His family was his life. There wasn’t anything he wouldn’t do for those he loved. His heart was huge, his smile mischievous and his laugh infectious. He had a great sense of humor and enjoyed hearing and telling a good joke.
He worked many years for the City of Lawrence Kansas in the water treatment plant. John was loved by all his fellow employees. He retired in 2005.
He is survived by his daughter, Rose McCrary of Kansas; his sons, John William McCrary, Jr. “Dooner” (Eva) of Wyoming and Vincent Harding of Kansas. Mr. McCrary is also survived by his grandchildren whom he loved, Jasmine and Larissa (Rose), Corrin, Kayla, Kira, John III, Monisa, and Joseph Lee (John, Jr.) and his great-grandchildren, Kai, (Jasmine), Zyla (Larissa), Mauriano William (John III), and Eliseo Candelario Cabrales (Monisa).
Other living family members of Mr. McCrary’s include Duane McCrary (Marianne) of Wisconsin; his sister, Linda Hamuud and her family (all of Kansas); his brothers, Robert (Shirley) and Cedric McCrary and their families (all of Texas). John had many cousins, nieces, and nephews, all of whom he loved to see. He also had many good friends.
John was preceded in death by his father, Cedric McCrary; his mother, Rose Belair McCrary and his siblings, Randy Miller, Cynthia Miller, Deanie Miller, and Rosebud Miller.
John will be missed by everyone that knew him. He leaves a huge hole in many hearts and lives.
In lieu of flowers, the family is accepting donations to help with the funeral costs or donations can be made to the American Diabetes Foundation or the Kidney/Dialysis Foundation.
