May 13, 1971 – February 17, 2023
Joseph A. Kost, 51, Kansas City, Missouri passed away February 17, 2023. Visitation was held on Thursday, February 23, 2023 at Chapel Hill-Butler Funeral Home, Kansas City, Kansas. A graveside service immediately followed at Gate of Heaven Catholic Cemetery, Kansas City, Kansas. In lieu of flowers, the family asks those who can contribute to a scholarship fund in his nephew’s honor, Drew Anderson Inspiration in Journalism at The University of Kansas School of Journalism. This scholarship is dedicated to KU students who inspire their peers by overcoming obstacles and demonstrating a passion for their work . Joey was born on May 13, 1971 and grew up in Kansas City, Kansas attending Piper High School. He was a registered member of the Potawatomie Indian Tribe and was very active within the Tribe. Joey enjoyed decorating for all holidays and spending those special days with his family.
He was preceded in death by his father, Richard A. Kost and nephew, Drew Anderson.
Survivors include his mother, Frances Dee Kost of Kansas City, Kansas; sisters, Debbie (Todd) Smith of Boerne, Texas and Wendee (Kent) Anderson of Kansas City, Kansas; one niece, Megan Colnar, New York City, New York; and nephews, Derek Colnar of San Antonio, Texas and Tanner Anderson of Kansas City, Kansas.
