LeRoy “Mickey” Mzhickteno
(October 16, 1918 – December 13, 2009)
Mayetta- LeRoy “Mickey” Mzhickteno, 91, of Mayetta, KS, passed away December 13, 2009 at his home. He was born October 16, 1918 on the common land the son of William and Ona Jane Seeley Mzhickteno. Mickey was born and raised on the Potawatomi Common Land. He graduated from Mayetta High School, after graduation he enlisted in the United States Army serving during WWII. He later moved to Lawrence and retired from FMC after working for over 40 years. He was a member of the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation, a 33rd Degree Mason and a member of WWII 35th Division. He married Madelyn Clark in 1941, they were later divorced. He later married Helen Peck in 1989, she preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by a sister, LeOna Knoxsah and two brothers, Billy and Virgil Mzhickteno. Survivors include two daughters, Ona Lee Fleming (Richard) of Lewisburg, PA and Elaine Mzhickteno Barr (Dave) of Mayetta; a sister, Rosella Knight of Stillwell, OK; 4 grandchildren, Paul Keltcher, Leonore Fleming, Ona Lynn Fralinger and Aaron Streitberger; eight great grandchildren, Hayden, Marissa, Bethany, Emma, Dandro, Jackson, Anita and Neil and a special friend, Marge Abney. The family will greet friends Tuesday evening at the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton with a funeral service at 7:00 p.m. Drum services will be Wednesday evening and Thursday at the Danceground building west of Mayetta . Burial will be in the Danceground Cemetery Thursday afternoon.
