June 13, 2011 –
Martha R. Rodriguez
Martha R. Rodriguez, age 52, of McHenry, died Monday, May 30, 2011, at her home.
She was born September 25, 1958 in Eufaula, OK, and was raised by her parents, Larry and Philomine (Cadue) Favero. She graduated from Eufaula High School, and then resided in Broadview, IL. She married her husband, Ruben Rodriguez, on Feb. 14, 1979. They were residents of McHenry County throughout their marriage, and resided in Woodstock, Richmond, and Johnsburg, before settling in McHenry for the past 15 years.
After receiving her associate degree, Martha worked for the past 14 years in the Information Systems Department at McHenry County College until earlier this year. Earlier in her career, she was employed in custodial services at the middle school in Johnsburg.
Martha was proud of her Native American heritage as a member of the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation. She was a popular speaker for area schools regarding the Native American Culture, dressing up in her buckskin dress and explaining the past way of life to the kids through demonstrations. She also participated as a volunteer at the Trail of History yearly fall event at Glacial Park, explaining the Native American culture to event attendees.
Martha’s adventurous and fun-loving spirit will be remembered by her family and friends. She liked to fly, and was not afraid to try bungee-jumping or mountain climbing. She loved dressing up and acting the part at Halloween. When her sons were younger, Martha was the most vocal fan during their football and basketball games. She enjoyed playing video games with them, and loved the outdoors and playing outdoor yard games and badminton with her family. Favorite interests were the Three Stooges, Looney Tunes, and David Cassidy, and her favorite city to visit was Chicago.
She is survived by her husband of 32 years, Ruben; her sons, Adrian Rodriguez of McHenry and Adam Rodriguez of Crystal Lake; a sister, Joyce (Archie) Hall of Alden; and a brother, James Douthitt of Janesville, WI.
