Martie Mitchell
July 7, 1971 – December 25, 2024
Martie Ann “Tahgo” Mitchell, 53, of the Prairie Band Potawatomi Reservation, passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, December 25, 2024. She was born to Gary and Voncile (Potts) Mitchell on July 7, 1971 in Holton, KS. She was a proud member of Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation and the Drum Religion.
Martie was a Royal Valley Graduate, attended Haskell Indian Junior College and Washburn University. She spent her last working days at Prairie Band Casino as she loved meeting new people, chatting with everyone and was very sharp with numbers.
She was preceded in death by her dad, Gary Mitchell.
Survivors include her mother, Voncile Mitchell; adopted father, Kabot Hale; sister, Joanna “Dumps” Mitchell; brother, Willie Potts; children, Cheyenne “Kek” Simon (“Kahke”) and Daniel “Pat-ko-shuk” Mitchell-Alvarado (Precious); so close to her heart, grandchildren, KwehKwehGee, Shawnosh, Kishkokwe Simon and Tekako and Waksha Mitchell; niece, Tara Mitchell (Riston); nephews, Waskeh Littleaxe, Luis Ortiz (Sarah); great nieces, Shug and Cora and great nephews, Monte, Massko, Wabsai, Keewatum, Biggs and Lorenzo. Also, surviving family members residing at Mayetta, KS, adopted grandmother, Venida Chenault and Judy Wabaunsee.
Martie loved seeing her grandchildren play and climb on her for a hug and kiss. One of Martie’s last wishes was to see her last 2 grandchildren be born before she passed. She loved all of the two big families she was born into-Mitchell and Potts.
She spent much time on social media, taking and sharing pictures and was a very generous person. She enjoyed good food, family get-togethers, shopping, decorating for the holidays and slots.
Martie spent her last evening smiling around lovingly watching her 5 grandchildren open their gifts, celebrating with immediate family for Christmas 2024.
Burial was on December 28, 2024 at the Mitchell Cemetery.
