April 17, 1965 – February 7, 2024
Matthew Loyal Rodriguez, a beloved member of the community, passed away on February 7, 2024. He was born on April 17, 1965, in Chicago. Matthew worked as a Teamster at Jewel Osco for many years, dedicating himself to his job with unwavering loyalty and commitment. He also worked downtown Chicago on State Street at the famous Palmer House as a cook for many years, doing what he loved most, cooking.
Matthew was known for his strong work ethic and his dedication to providing exceptional service. always going above and beyond to deliver goods efficiently and on time.
Matthew is preceded in death by his mother Verna M. Rodriguez (Shegonee), Jose Rodriguez and Sheryl J. Rodriguez along with many aunts and uncles. He was father to Anna and was a loving brother to Donica Nanez, Marie Lozano and Antonio Rodriguez. The bond he shared with his siblings was unbreakable, grounded in love and shared experiences that created memories they will forever hold dear in their hearts. Matthew’s presence will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. He will be greatly missed by his many loving cousins, nieces and nephews.
Matthew was kind hearted to everyone he met and had a great sense of humour and a smile always on his face.
Though we mourn the loss of Matthew Loyal Rodriguez, we find solace in the rich tapestry of memories he has left us with. His legacy will continue to live on through the positive impact he made on those around him. Let us remember him with fondness and gratitude for the light he brought into our lives.
Matthew was known to his friends and family by “Dio”. He selflessly volunteered his time to helping friends in the Native American community and the American Indian Center of Chicago. You can usually spot him helping set up tents and working in the background at Pow Wows or helping his numerous friends on various projects around town.
His favorite music was classic rock, Led Zepplin, ACDC and many more. You would always find him listening with his headphones on jamming out to his favorite tunes.
Matthew was a proud member of the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation.
Rest in peace, Matthew. May your soul find eternal serenity, and may your cherished memories bring comfort to all who mourn your passing.
