TOPEKA, KS – Ricky Lee Phinney, 56, of Topeka passed away on Friday, August 4, 2017. He was born August 11, 1960 at Topeka the son of Donald Phinney, Sr. and Genevive Pappan Phinney.
He lived all his life in Topeka. Ricky was a very simple person. Ricky worked several jobs during his working career.
He is best remembered for several things. Helping out his family and friends in their time of need, fixing cars, towing their car when it was broken down, you name it. Just being available to help or being there. He was his parent’s caregiver late in their lives. He cooked Sunday dinner for his father after his mother had to go to the nursing home, just like she would have done for Don before she wasn’t able to anymore. His grandchildren where very important to him, often the first thing he discussed during many a phone conversation. He was a big race fan, and a huge Dale Earnhardt fan, #3 not #88. He will be remembered for ending most conversations whether in person or over the phone by simply saying “Later”.
He is survived by his daughter, Robin Welker of Topeka; grandchildren, Mason and Addysen; siblings, Jeanine Kaberline, Don Phinney, Jr., Teresa Phinney and Mike Phinney and wife Cheryl all of Topeka and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at Davidson Funeral Home on Wednesday, August 9, 2017 at 11:00 am. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 7:30 pm, Tuesday evening at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Ricky Phinney Memorial Fund.
