Ronald “Ron” Wahweotten Obituary

Ronald “Ron” Wahweotten
December 27, 1941 – October 30, 2023

Ronald “Ron” Wahweotten, 81, of Mayetta, KS, passed away Monday October 30, 2023, at his home on the Prairie Band Potawatomi Reservation in Mayetta, KS. He was born December 27, 1941, in Mayetta, KS the son of Ray Wahweotten and Elsie Wahwassuck.

Ron was a master craftsman and business owner for many years throughout northeastern Kansas. He worked at J.F. McGivern Incorporated for over 30 years. He was owner/operator of Ron’s Painting. Ron was an avid billiards player, and considered by many as a pool shark.

He was a citizen of the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation. Ron proudly served in the United States Marine Corps from 1959 – 1963.

Ron was united in marriage to LaVeda Wahweotten on May 8, 1963, in Topeka, KS. They shared over 58 years of marriage before her passing on April 30, 2022.

He is survived by a brother, Larry Wahweotten of Augusta, KS; a sister Cheryl Walker of Mayetta, KS; 5 children, Mark Lopez of Delia, KS, Tina Wahweotten of Mayetta, KS, Tony Wahweotten (Angie) of Mayetta, KS, Ray Wahweotten (Nancy) of Delia, KS, Charles “Chuck” Wahweotten (Erlinda) of Topeka, KS; 9 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren.

He is proceeded in death by his parents; a son, Gerald Thomas; 3 sisters Inez Shopteese, Mary Brown and Lorene Wahweotten, and 2 brothers, Edward Wahweotten and Orville Kice, Jr.

A visitation was held on Thursday, November 2, 2023, at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Services were Thursday evening, November 2, 2023, at Nozhackum Hall on the Prairie Band Potawatomi Reservation. Burial with Military Honors was Friday morning, November 3, 2023, at Wahwassuck Cemetery (O Road between 134th and 142nd rd.)
