Yolanda Solis Obituary

Yolanda Solis (Kett-Kut-Kwe)

MAYETTA – Yolanda Solis, Kett-Kut-Kwe, 12, of Mayetta, died Thursday, February 14, 2008 at the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City after a 2 1/2 year battle with cancer.

She was born February 10, 1996 in Topeka, the daughter of Isaias Solis and Justina”Tommie” Jackson. Justina preceded her in death on December 29, 2007.

She was a member of the Prairie Band of Potawatomi Nation and the Drum Religion. She was an honor roll student and a member of the Native American Indian Club, both at RoyalValleyMiddle School.

Survivors include her father, Isaias Solis, Topeka; her grandparents, James & Judy Jackson, Mayetta, and Hector & Consuelo Solis, Topeka; great grandfather, Ed Potts, Mayetta, great grandmother, Mary Carlisle, Topeka; a sister, Sandra Solis, Mayetta; three half brothers, Marco A. Solis, Juan P. Solis, and Jesus N. Solis, and one half sister, Alicia Solis, all of Topeka; eight aunts, Jennifer Buskirk, Mayetta, Felicia W. Brown, Denver, Emma Medrano, Maria Rodriguez, Hilda Solis, Noehmi Solis, Yolanda Steward and Patricia Solis, all of Topeka; seven uncles, Jason Jackson, Topeka, Justin Jackson, Mayetta, Raul Solis and Eduardo “Lalo” Solis, both in Mexico, and Armando Solis, Hector Solis, Jr., and Elias Solis, all of Topeka; great aunts, Linda Jackson, Evelyn Seymour, Lucy Jackson, Lorilei Potts, Beverly Goslin, Roberta Jackson, Janice Jackson, Therese Large; great uncles, Michael Jackson, Bennie Potts, Ted Carlisle, and Danny Carlisle; and numerous cousins, including Eugene Masquat, Gary Wayne Buskirk, James Buskirk, Matthew Buskirk, Lance Buskirk, Jordan Jackson, Robert W. Jackson, Janis R. Jackson, and Joseph A. Jackson.

Yolanda will lie in state until 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 19th at the Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Hoyt where family and friends will meet from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. on Monday. Drum services will be Tuesday evening at the Dance Ground west of Mayetta. Burial will be Wednesday afternoon in the Matwe-ShobneyCemetery.
