MAYETTA: Representatives including Anthony Rodman, Senior Advisor for the Tribal Relations Land Buy-Back Program for Tribal Nations from Washington, D.C., held an informational meeting last Friday at 1 p.m. in the events center at the Prairie Band Casino & Resort.
A large crowd of persons who have been identified as owning a fractional interest in land located on the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation attended and the meeting was open to the public.
The Secretary of the Interior established the Land Buy-Back Program for Tribal Nations to implement the land consolidation requirements of the Cobell Settlement Agreement. The goal of the program is to purchase highly fractionated trust land from voluntary sellers at fair market value. Land purchased through this program will automatically be placed in trust for the benefit of the Prairie Band Potawatomi nation and its members.
The Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation was selected as one of 21 tribes in the Nation to participate in the Land Buy-Back Program and members of the Tribal Council, Realty Office, and Tribal Attorney’s office were also on hand.
