MAYETTA: Tribal Chairman Steve Ortiz is scheduled to participate in the Swearing-In Ceremony for Kansas Governor-elect Sam Brownback this morning at 11 a.m. The ceremony can be seen at www.WIBW.com where it will be streamed live from the Kansas House Chambers inside the Capitol. Ortiz will present a gift to Brownback as the principal representative of the Kansas Tribes.
The ceremony was originally scheduled to be held outside on the Capitol steps but was moved this morning due to 4.5 inches of snow that has fallen since last night. Up to 8 inches is predicted to fall throughout the day that is affecting much of the northeast Kansas region.
Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation government offices and the Health Center/clinic are closed today but essential personnel have reported to work. The Language Department classes are also cancelled for this evening.
