MAYETTA: Tribal landowners who have interests in trust land located on the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation (PBPN) are invited to attend an upcoming Land Buy-Back program informational meeting on Friday, Feb. 13 at the Prairie Band Casino & Resort (12305 150th Road) in Mayetta from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. The meeting will be held in the Prairie Du Chien Room.
A similar meeting will be provided to tribal landowners in Wisconsin on Feb. 28 at the Potawatomi Casino Milwaukee (1721 W Canal St.) in Milwaukee from 10 a.m. to noon in the Serenity Room. Following that meeting, a question and answer session will be held in the Harmony Room from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
The meetings will focus on program background, the appraisal and offer process, and to answer tribal landowner questions in order to make informed decisions as to whether they participate in the program.
Offers will not be made at the meetings.
Representatives from the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation’s (PBPN) Tribal Land Office, Attorney’s Office, Enrollment Office, and Tribal Council will be on hand at the meetings along with staff from the DOI Land Buy-Back Program and Office of Special Trust.
The purpose of the Land Buy-Back Program is to purchase highly fractionated tracts of tribal trust land, consolidating the ownership, and transferring it to the PBPN in trust. The program was created by the Claims Resolution Act of 2010, which was part of the Cobell Settlement.
