10.3.18 – In keeping with the value of showing pride and supporting the endeavors of our youth, members of the Prairie Band Potawatomi community along with others from the Northeast Kansas area took part in the Fall PBPN Boys and Girls Club Golf Tournament today held at the Firekeeper Golf Course on the Prairie Band Potawatomi Common Land.
The tournament is one of many fundraising efforts held by the PBPN Boys and Girls Club throughout the year. This golf tournament is raising funds for the local UNITY youth group members. The Club currently has 26 active members in the UNITY program with participants ranging from 14 to 24 years of age.
The funding raised today will help the youth afford activities and trips over the course of the year. These trips include fun outings like visiting Worlds of Fun and the haunted houses in Kansas City this fall, along with the Senior Trip during spring break. This year’s Senior Trip is set for two college visits at the University of Oklahoma and Oklahoma State University. Some of the funds will also go towards the National UNITY Conference, which is being held in Orlando, Florida in July 2019.
More fundraising activities will take place throughout the year. Up next is a Christmas Raffle which will include televisions and other appealing items. Members of the UNITY youth group along with staff of the Boys and Girls Club will be out in the community selling chances in December.
UNITY, Inc. is a national network organization promoting personal development, citizenship, and leadership among Native American Youth. The organization has been empowering and serving American Indian and Alaska Native youth for over 40 years.
