The PBPN Cultural Heritage Committee put out a Call for Art and received a positive response with 39 entries submitted from local and out of state artists. A public viewing was held at Prairie Band Casino and Resort on Friday, July 31, 2020.
The Cultural Heritage Committee is assisting in the process of selecting artwork to be placed in areas of the Prairie Band Casino and Resort due to the expansion project. The Committee felt it was important to engage the community and allow Potawatomi artists an opportunity to showcase their talent.
The Call for Art was open to any member of one of the Potawatomi bands or any descendant of a member. The parameters for art pieces were wide open, from traditional to contemporary with any medium being accepted and could be submitted digitally or physically.
During the public viewing, each visitor voted for Best of Show, resulting in the top prize of a $500 gift card. The remaining pieces were judged by the Cultural Heritage Committee. In all a total of 15 prizes were awarded, the top 5 winners received gift cards ranging from $500 to $100, 6th through 10th place received $100 to the Three Fires Steak House and 11th through 15th place received Ice Cream Makers.
