The Prairie Band Casino & Resort will begin managing Nation Station Convenience Store on July 1. Plans call for the station to shut down for one day and to reopen July 2 at 8 a.m.
Tribal Chairman Steve Ortiz said, “Tribal Council made the decision to move the convenience store/gas station to the casino side because it just seemed a better fit than it was as a Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation government tribal enterprise.”
He said that projected plans for the store include the ability to expand complimentary programs for casino patrons through various store offerings and to allow employees who presently work at Nation Station to have the opportunity to receive greater employee benefit packages than they have now.
Nation Station opened in 1999 and offers a full line of convenience store items, cigarettes and gasoline. New gas dispensers were installed last spring and the store offers a daily menu of lunch items and soft-serve ice cream. The store is open seven days a week.
Nation Station is located in the northwest section of the casino grounds at 12285 150th Road, Mayetta, Kan.
