MAYETTA: Prairie Peoples Park is getting spruced up and the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation pow-wow Committee has been hard at work for several months organizing this year’s pow-wow that is scheduled to run this weekend.
Events begin on Thursday night with the Prairie Band Potawatomi princess contest and then on Friday campers and vendors will begin rolling in for the 7 p.m. Grand Entry. Pow-wow activities will continue through Sunday.
Over $55,000 in prizes will be awarded this year for competing drum and dance groups. Harvey Dreaver is the Head Drum Judge and the Master of Ceremonies is Wallace Coffey. Michael Roberts will act as the Arena Director and also to be honored during the pow-wow is Emery Hale, Honored Veteran, and LaVera “Babe” Bell who was selected as the Honored Elder.
