The youth language class gave a performance last night in the Rock building as a dress rehearsal for a competition that will be held April 1-2 at the Oklahoma Native American Youth Language Fair in Norman, Oklahoma In the photo is Dawn “Sogi” LeClere (in front) who was the emcee for the evening and also directs the group that meets on Wednesday evenings in the Language Department.
Approximately 70 people attended the event that included family, friends, and members of the Tribal Council and administration. Following the performance, pizza and punch was served.
Cecelia “Shobwas” Hubbard, who is also the 2012-13 We-Ta-Se American Legion Post princess, held up a message that she spoke in Potawatomi to the audience during the event.
Another act called the “Little Red Hen” was performed by the 9th-12th grade Spoken Language group.
Mae Joslin gave a performance in the 3rd-5th grade Individual Spoken Language performance category.
Jaiden Wamego gave a powerpoint presentation in the 6th-8th grade Individual performance category.
Language students were seated in the first two rows of the Rock building. There are 22 teens and kids who have combined to form the group that will represent the PBPN during the competition.
Jessica Youngbird, Administrative Assistant in the Language Department, was recognized at the event for her work in the Language Department.
