MAYETTA: Some students in the PBPN Language Department’s Youth Language program won first and second place awards at the Oklahoma Native American Youth Language Fair in Norman, Oklahoma on April 7 and 8.
Jessica Youngbird, who is an instructor in the Language Department, wrote in an email: We are super proud to have gotten the opportunity to have worked with such a great group of kids. We want to send out a big thank you to the parents and community members for all their support. We look forward to next year’s competition and representing the Prairie Band Potawatomi again.
Below are the award winners:
1st Place: 3rd-5th grade (small group, spoken language) for Country Mouse City Mouse presentation. Left to right: Preston Torres, Mae Joslin and Halina Williamson.
Torres also took first place in the 6th-8th grade (individual spoken language) for his “Dreams” presentation.
Jaiden Wamego took 2nd place in 6th-8th grade (individual power point) for his “How to be a Good Leader” presentation.
